Homework for this week
May 12 - 16, 2008
Homework this week:
Homework should NOT take your first grader more than 30 minutes each evening, unless he or she has extra work to make up. Your child works hard during the day, and family time in the evenings is very important. Thank you!
Spelling homework and reading logs are placed in your child's homework folder each Monday , for the week. Please have your child do one spelling sheet each night, and study for the spelling test on Friday. Also have your child read for 10 minutes each night. YOUR CHILD should fill out the reading log with the title of the book he or she read, and how many minutes - and then a parent or guardian should sign the log each night. It is not the parent's job to complete the log, only to sign it each night. It is the student's responsibility to fill out the title of the book read, and the minutes read.
There is no more math homework this year. This week in class we are reviewing money and calendar concepts.
Spelling words this week: new, knew, fair, fare, tow, toe, red, read, pane, pain.
During the next couple of weeks, I may also put some reading worksheets in your child’s homework folder. These will not be for a grade – they are just to practice the format of our reading test. We are particularly practicing reading EVERY word on a test – and picking the best answer to each question.
Thank you!
First grade students receive a prize from the class treasure box if they do their homework every day for the week.
Please note: homework has to be turned in by 8 AM on the day it is due, and done completely and correctly. Math fact sheets with more than 3 problems done incorrectly will not receive credit. Math lesson homework sheets that have more than 1/2 of the problems done incorrectly will not receive credit. Spelling homework with misspelled words will not recieve credit. Numbers and letters need to be written carefully, so that I can read them. You get the idea... Thank you!
