Week of May 10, 2010

DON’T LET TIME RUN OUT ON YOU!
The Core Knowledge Fair is this Thursday Night, May 13th from 6:00 until 7:30! All Projects are due by Wednesday, May 12th.

Once again the homework expectations have been kept “LIGHTER” to encourage everyone to allot plenty of time and energy to work on their projects. If you haven’t done so already (some kids report that their projects are already done) PLEASE take advantage of the last few days and the lighter homework schedule to do your VERY BEST WORK!

Language Arts: Since we are ahead of schedule and have finished all of the required reading elements of the Core Knowledge Curriculum, we will be working on reviewing Poetry, Sayings and Phrases, Short Stories, Novels, and Grammar as we prepare for Core Knowledge Testing, which is scheduled for May 18th through the 20th.

Math: This is the tentative classroom schedule this week. Kids will be completing ALL of the work associated with these lessons in class.
Monday: Lesson #87 Complete and Check
Tuesday: Lesson #88 Remainder Stories About Equal Groups
Wednesday: Complete Lesson #88 and Check
Thursday: Lesson #89 Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions
Friday: Complete Lesson #89

In Science this week we will be reviewing previous science units.

History: We will continue to work on completing the final unit in out History text entitled, “American Reformers.” This week there will be a few short assignments that will need to be completed as homework.

Please note that in Spalding Spelling we are back to our regular routine.

Monday- Write each spelling word in your best cursive three times.
Tuesday- 1) Print each word. 2) Write the word in your best cursive. 3) Break the work into syllables and write how many. 4) Write to word in divided syllables.
Wednesday- Write the spelling word, then find and write two words that rhyme with it.
Thursday- Print each spelling word and then in cursive writing show it’s Spalding markings, as we do during dictation. Make sure to identify the rules and jobs that apply to each word. (Do your best on this one…remember, we are still working on being able to do this more independently)

As always, please make sure that you are looking for and signing-off on your child’s Homework Tracker every single day. This will help ensure that your child remains as up-to-date as possible and earns credit for turning in their work. It also shows me that you have seen their homework, checked-off on its quality, read and discussed the What Your Fourth Grader Needs To Know assignment, and seen any “Notes” or messages that might have been sent home.
