Reading

Continue to fill in reading log every night, keep in folder, and sign for Fridays.  Whenver possible make them read to you.

******attention:******We will begin testing this Friday, April 18, on the first 20 sight words I sent home to you, these are the yellow ones in the packs.  Green and pink are challenge ones for your little budding geniuses.

Writing

M-Th: This week we are reviewing letters a-z, ee, oo th, sh, ch, ow, ar, ai oy oi ,er,ir ay .  New phonogram this wk. Is “ur”  If you haven’t come in for spalding training and your free pack of phonogram cards make an apt with me for after school Monday-Thursday.  It is so crucial to your child’s reading ability!

Now, they have learned the whole alphabet, upper and lower case.  Please sit by them and make sure they form the letters correctly,   If they practice them wrong, they will write them incorrectly, and it will be twice as hard to fix the problem. You can check out the letter formation sheet I sent you at the beginning of the year to see the proper way to form the letters.   If you need another, write me a note.

We will be looking at proper letter formation, this will be a major part of this quarter’s writing grade.  Have them practice in front of you so you can monitor them.

The writing homework will be a wksheet.  It has a fun side; you read the instructions to your child, they do it, and the back are four words from our Ayers word list.  They should be writing words three times each. In order for the word to mean anything have them say the word as they write it.  This helps for the spelling test, too.

Friday:  We will be testing phonograms either written or orally

Kindergarten Homework Policy

Homework in Kindergarten is assigned Monday through Thursday. The practice they get while doing homework is crucial to the learning process and you are helping them learn responsibility and form lifelong habits that will greatly benefit them in the years of school to come. To make it fun, your child will earn a sticker for each day they bring in their homework on time. When they earn 10 stickers, they will get to pick a “gadget” from the “gadget box” . If you ever want to clean house and contribute to our gadget box, donations are always welcome.

Homework is due the day after it is assigned, otherwise, it is considered late. Reading logs are always due on the last school day of the week. There will be no credit given for late papers, but they will be marked as done in Powerschool, this is very important because if your child does not return all homework by Friday, they will work on it while the rest of the class watches our Friday movie.

Power school is the computer program we teachers at KCS use for keeping a grade book. You can come to the school for a brief in-service and be able to access your child’s grades from your computer at home. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

There will be exceptions in cases of illness (for every day they are absent they have one extra day to make up work). If you know you will be taking a family vacation, let me know ahead of time so that I can send the homework along, or make other plans to make up what they will be missing.

Please use pencils (not pens) for homework, or crayons where applicable. If you would like a home set of crayons or pencils, let me know.

Also, please check your child’s folder every night and remove corrected papers. If you have a question about whether a paper has been entered into the computer, send it back to me and I will double check. Usually a paper will have a stamp or a sticker or a comment written on it to show you that I have graded it. It is very important that your child bring their backpack and folder to school every morning. While they are learning to be responsible students, please help them remember by asking them, “Are you forgetting anything?”

I will be sending more info as we deal with new things. Thanks for your cooperation, and support. Together, we are your child’s educational team.

Sincerely, Ms. Hecker
