Technology > KCS Knowledge Quests > Endangered Species

DEAR TEAM,

Congratulations, you have each been selected to become members of Ketchikan Charter School’s Endangered Animals Awareness Club!  As members of the club, your goal is to learn as much as possible about endangered animals and what you can do to help them.  Keep in mind that your work might be shared with your classmates or on the KCS website, so do your best and good luck with your three quests!

Quest 1: Determine Your Designated Positions

Each member of your research team has a job!

  1. Recorder – the person on the left will be in charge of taking down notes, typing, saving documents, etc.
  2. Researcher – the person on the right will be in charge of researching information, clicking on website links, etc.
  3. Assistant – if your group has a person in the middle then this person will assist both the recorder and the researcher.

If all team members agree, rolls may be traded.  The teacher may also announce or request a roll change.

Quest 2: Knowledge is Power!

Click here to download and complete the knowledge report.  Save this to the documents folder on the recorder’s laptop.

Quest 3: Project

As a Ketchikan Charter School’s Endangered Animals Awareness Club research team, you must complete 3 of the following projects, making sure to use your own words when writing, and making sure to cite all sources.  When completed, projects must be turned into my drop box.

  • Download and complete this PowerPoint using the appropriate resource link below.
  • Use Microsoft Word to create a flyer about an endangered animal in our area.  Include pictures, information about the animal, and what you can do to help save it.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to fill in this fact sheet about 9 endangered species.
  • Use iMovie to create a 1-2 minute slideshow of endangered animals in North America.  Record a voice narration to go along with the slideshow.
  • Use GarageBand to record a 30-60 second radio commercial for Ketchikan residents about what they can to do help local species.
  • Use Microsoft Word to type three paragraphs about why some people might not want to protect an endangered species.  Think about what they gain by not protecting it.
  • Propose your own project – if your team has a great idea, just let me know and I will probably let you do it!
